code of conduct
We adhere to the Dog Walkers & Sitters Association (DWSA) Code of Conduct:
- I will ensure the health and safety of any dog in my care at all times.
- I will keep dogs in my care under control at all times.
- I will have a genuine care, respect and courtesy for all animals, the public, other dog walkers and sitters, online groups and environments at all times.
- I will ensure security of clients’ property following all visits, collection and return of dogs.
- I will be up to date on and aware of all relevant laws associated with dog control and handling, local council by-laws, and estate management.
- I will obtain any necessary permits and comply with the requirements.
- I will ensure all dogs in my care have correctly fitted collars/harnesses.
- I will ensure all dogs in my care are microchipped and name tagged.
- I will clean up after dogs in my care and dispose of waste properly in line with current legislation.
- I will ensure all dogs in my care are transported in a safe and legal manner.
- I will provide sufficient Public Liability Insurance for my services.
- I will only exercise a maximum of 4 dogs per person at one time in a public area.
- I will carry a dog first aid kit at all times.
- I will not poach clients from other local dog walking businesses.
- I will not use harsh or aversive punishment for dogs in my care.
- I will not disclose private, personal or confidential information about clients as per data protection law and GDPR.
- I will not falsely advertise any service or credentials.
- I will conduct myself at all times so as not to bring the DWSA into disrepute.
